Marketplace Coffeeshop in Natchez, Mississippi

A warm Southern welcome and a sweet beignet. Mmm...

Natchez, Mississippi

Loose paraphrase of a conversation from Mystery Train, a film by Jim Jarmusch:

Dee Dee: Do you know if this is the train to Natchez?
Mitzuko: Matches? One minute. (looking for lighter).

The Bayou

Bayou= "a marshy outlet of a lake or river. From the Choctaw bayuk." In other words, bayou is a euphemism for swamp.

Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?

Natchez steamboat

On the top of this steamboat is a crazy old witch playing the calliope.
Calliope = "an American keyboard instrument resembling an organ but with the notes produced by steam whistles. From the Greek Muse of epic poetry Kalliope, literally meaning 'having a beautiful voice.'" It is hard to see in this picture but the steam coming off the calliope is multi-colored giving a visual quality to the melodies played.

A stroll in the park. Garden District.

St. Charles Avenue

This grocery store/cafe smelled real good but we were never able to have a muffuletta there.

Tulane University

This is the Humanities building where the Spanish department has offices. It can easily be asserted that it is a lot more welcoming than Wescoe Hall.
