Chasing Green Grey Ghosts on Baranof Island

Casting to numerous 36-inch steelhead in gin clear shallow water.

Green Grey ghosts lurking amid the giant Sitka spruce. Woodpeckers tapping. Eagles screeching. Somewhere special, a place  on Baranof Island so magical I won't mention its name.

The One that Got Away. A massive steelhead caught in very shallow gin clear water.

A Special Place

Arriving at the Secret Spot

At the Falls

A look at the falls where coho salmon lay waiting to jump up and spawn.

Trout Slayer

Kirsten caught lunch that we cooked on some alder wood and so many more beautiful trout with this productive fly. Her first fish caught and landed on a fly. The lake was gin clear and we squeaked through a beautiful box canyon to find it.

Out to Sea

Off in the distance, Mount Ada, rising 4500 feet  up from Chatham Strait. We were out to hand fishing for halibut after a quick turn of the tides.

Sandy Cove

The Morning Commute. Sandy Cover after the labyrinth to get on the outside of Baranof Island. The smell of freshly chopped Devil's Club. Surprisingly quite delicious. A walk up to the falls with numerous bear scat.

Baturin Lake, Overlooking Chatham Strait

Ancient Bear Trail. For hundreds, maybe thousands of years, bears have been walking this trail, following the exact same path as their predecessors and leaving a path over the ridge to the lake.
