Yo La Tengo’s ironic but appropriately titled
Popular Songs has been on high rotation this past year. Its depth makes it the most comprehensive YLT album to date. The first part of the album features songs so varied in style, it’s amazing that they come from the same band while the last three songs, droning jams that hark back to the older YLT albums, are deeply satisfying. I really enjoy “More Stars than There Are in Heaven,” which accurately describes our night camping in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
